A lack of child friendly sanitation in schools has lead to high rates of absenteeism and ultimately drop-outs. The absence of a dignified sanitary solution is hampering continued education, especially for adolescent girls, and in turn behavioural change in children and within the communities.
We’re getting involved to establish child-friendly sanitation infrastructures and help promote behavioural change (through education and awareness of safe sanitation and hygiene practises), with an aim towards realising gender equality, dignity and identity of school children.
Community-level monitoring of usage and maintenance of infrastructure will be built in during the project planning stage for monitoring mechanisms and sustainable exit strategy. The behavioural change amongst children will provide a lifelong lesson in healthy, dignified living.
We need to raise £115,000 to make this fantastic project a reality, and start changing the lives of thousands of children, so Parcel Monkey has pledged to make a donation for every single purchase that is made through our websites. To help us reach our target, we’re also asking our amazing customers to get in on the act and make a donation towards our goal. Together, we can give these children a positive and sustainable start to life by donating below.
With an average daily income of $3 per person, India has become a ‘middle income country’, deemed to be wealthy enough to deal with its own problems and therefore no longer requiring aid. With aid resources needing to be prioritised, support from international governments and NGOs has been diverted to those countries deemed to be ‘more’ in need.
However, for those living at or below India’s average daily income, the reality is that their poverty is still extreme and in some cases, absolute. Indeed, as India continues to grow, as with other middle income countries, the gap widens between those ‘with’ and those ‘without’.
“One in three of the world’s malnourished children live in India.”
“As we celebrate the launch of our international service, it’s the perfect time to begin a new partnership with Hope for CHildren, an international charity, and we are delighted that we can use this opportunity to increase awareness of the fantastic work they are doing.”
